In Partnership with Coursera

Hi there,

In today’s issue, I’m writing about ways to stay motivated during the slow summer hiring cycles.

Make the slow season your glow-up season

Noticing fewer postings this week? That's not just you, that's how the market tends to move in summer, with the exception of education. May felt strong, and I'm hopeful we keep that momentum. Slow times let you step back from the furious scroll-and-apply loop and actually reevaluate: where am I right now, what are my real strengths, and what do I want to develop and showcase for the next pivot (or that internal promotion)?

Try this exercise I run with coaching clients. Draw a quadrant: two columns, "like doing" and "dislike doing," and two rows, "good at" and "needs improvement." Map yourself honestly. Everything landing in the "like doing" and "needs improvement" box? That's your summer to-learn list. Then think about any professional development funds you can access at work, because this is exactly what they're for.

We have more online learning resources than ever right now, and I still like to lean on credible sources, Coursera being a favorite. Think about your own learning style and what actually works for you, of course. That said, you really can't beat the flexibility and the sheer access to courses.

Right now Coursera is running one of its best deals: 50% off 10,000+ programs, with access to 350+ top universities and companies. Heads up though, the price goes back up on June 18.
