A big part of the work my colleagues and I get to do is building confidence in others. Job searching is tough! You pour your heart into perfecting your documents and applications, you finally spot those intriguing roles, you hit submit... and then the next week or so might bring a flurry of those dreaded "we regret to inform you" emails. That can knock anyone down! But remember: this is part of the process. Somewhere in the middle of those “not moving forward” messages, there’s likely an invitation to interview waiting for you.

If you start to feel down about your work or your worth, take a moment to truly soak in all the amazing things you’ve accomplished throughout your career. Whether it was with a past employer or as a freelance consultant, you made an impact and that work is undeniably yours. So remind yourself (and others!) by putting it out there.

I recently shared some tips on what to post on LinkedIn if you’re job searching (TL;DR: don’t just post about how terrible the market is or how many rejection emails you’ve received. Focus instead on what’s happening in your industry, what resources you can share with others in your field, or something exciting you’ve recently learned).

Someone left a brilliant comment: upload your resume to ChatGPT and ask it to identify your areas of expertise. Then, have it generate a few specific topics you could write about to share your knowledge. It’s an excellent idea, especially if you’re feeling stuck, unsure where to begin, or in need of a confidence boost.

Remember this: you don’t have to be employed to be insightful. You don’t have to land the job before you start showing people how you think. If GPT isn’t cutting it and you need a job search coach, find out more about us here.
