Candidates Still Have Leverage. Here’s Proof.
Last week, my LinkedIn comment led to a salary range getting added to an executive job posting.
I commented on a post from a well-known organization that was searching for their next leader. The role had no salary range listed, so I called that out.
That comment took off with 36,000 impressions and a lot of engagement.
The organization’s hired executive recruiter chimed in. The organization responded too, explaining the situation.
Fast forward one week and they updated the posting. It now says they heard the feedback and added a salary range to the candidate packet.
To be clear, I didn’t do this alone. Several others commented asking for the same thing. This wasn’t a solo act. It was collective pressure.
And that’s the trend I want to name this week.
Despite all the noise about a “tight” job market, candidates still have leverage. Especially experienced candidates. Especially when they ask reasonable questions about pay, flexibility, and working conditions.
What’s shifting is not whether organizations care. It’s whether candidates are willing to speak up.
Too many people quietly accept job postings that hide salary ranges.Too many default to in-office roles without a clear explanation of why presence matters.Too many assume asking will hurt their chances.
What I’m seeing instead is this: when enough candidates push back respectfully, organizations listen.
They revise postings. They clarify expectations. They realize the market is paying attention.
The takeaway:
Ask for what you need.Call out what’s missing.Push back respectfully and collectively when something doesn’t add up.
You might be surprised what shifts when employers realize candidates are informed, organized, and no longer willing to guess.
